UT Chandigarh Organises Workshop on Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023

Around 200 senior officers participate in awareness and implementation workshop

The Department of Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration, in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), National e-Governance Division (NeGD), Government of India and C-DAC Mohali, organised an Awareness and Implementation Workshop on the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 on 3rd June 2026 at Hotel Mountview, Sector 10, Chandigarh.

The workshop was presided over by the Director Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration and attended by the Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, senior officials from NeGD and C-DAC Mohali along with approximately 200 senior officers representing various departments of the Chandigarh Administration.

The workshop aimed to sensitise government officials about the provisions of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and to strengthen institutional preparedness for its effective implementation across departments.

Expert resource persons from NeGD conducted detailed technical sessions covering the legislative framework of the Act, key definitions and its practical applicability to government departments. Participants were apprised of the responsibilities of Data Fiduciaries, rights of Data Principals, lawful processing of personal data, consent management, purpose limitation, data minimisation, security safeguards and breach notification requirements.

The sessions also focused on provisions relating to children’s data, grievance redressal mechanisms, appointment of Data Protection Officers and the enforcement framework envisaged under the Act. Officials were guided on mapping departmental data flows and adopting measures necessary for ensuring compliance with the new data protection regime.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director Information Technology, Chandigarh Administration, said that the workshop marks an important step towards responsible digital governance and citizen-centric service delivery. He emphasised that all departments of the Chandigarh Administration would be provided necessary training and support to achieve compliance with the provisions of the DPDP Act, 2023 in a time-bound manner.

As a follow-up to the workshop, the Department of Information Technology will organise a series of department-specific training programmes and capacity-building initiatives to facilitate implementation of the Act across the Administration. The initiative will also focus on developing standard operating procedures and strengthening institutional mechanisms for safeguarding citizens’ personal data.

The workshop reflects Chandigarh Administration’s commitment to building a secure, transparent and accountable digital governance ecosystem while protecting the privacy rights of citizens.
